The German Offshore Wind Energy Association (BWO) has appointed Holger Matthiesen, Director Offshore Wind & Green Hydrogen at Luxcara, to its board on 15 October 2025. He succeeds Jost Backhaus, who is stepping down following his move to Juwi Group.
Matthiesen brings extensive international experience in the development, construction, and operation of offshore wind farms, as well as insight into both industrial practice and investor interests. Since early 2024, Matthiesen has led Luxcara’s offshore wind and green hydrogen activities. He oversees projects including Waterekke (1.5 GW) and Waterkant (300 MW) in the German North Sea. His previous roles include senior positions at Aker Horizons and Mainstream Renewable Power, where he managed offshore wind development in Europe and emerging global markets. Earlier in his career, he worked for RWE Renewables and E.ON Climate & Renewables.
The BWO board also includes Chair Irina Lucke (Omexom Renewable Energies Offshore), Deputy Chair Till Frohloff (Nordsee One), and Finance Director Jörg Kubitza (Ørsted Germany).
