We4Ce and CNC Onsite have finished their first collaborative project to transfer blade repair expertise to a wind farm in South Asia. In May, the companies trained the site’s technicians to independently repair loose blade root bushings on 26 turbines.
CNC Onsite’s precision machine was used on-site to remove damaged bushings, allowing the park’s technicians to apply We4Ce’s Re-FIT bushing and fastening method. Prior to the project, technicians received training on the repair technology at We4Ce’s laboratory in the Netherlands and on operating the precision machine at CNC Onsite’s facility in Denmark.
After training, the service team established a field workshop at the wind farm and, with oversight from CNC Onsite and We4Ce, conducted large-scale repairs. The customer aims to restore over 1,000 bushings.
Three industrial work tents, each covering 100 square metres and housing a rotor blade, were set up as controlled environments. One tent was used for drilling, the second for bushing replacement, and the third for final flattening.
CNC Onsite developed a custom machine to drill out defective bushings from the rotor blades’ composite laminate, creating precise holes for the replacements.
We4Ce’s patented infusion technology was used to fasten the new bushings, ensuring accurate centring. Epoxy resin was infused through an inlet tube into the bushing base, with vacuum processing to guarantee even distribution around the cavity.
