The Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm, jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, delivered its first electricity to the German grid on 3 December 2025. Full commissioning of the 913 MW wind farm is expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Located approximately 72 kilometres off the German North Sea coast, Borkum Riffgrund 3 covers around 75 km². It comprises 83 wind turbines, each rated at 11 MW. The project is also the first offshore wind farm built by Ørsted in Germany without an offshore substation. Instead, a 66 kV direct connection links the turbines to the DolWin epsilon offshore converter platform, which is installed and operated by the German transmission system operator TenneT.
