NnG completion event image two 862x567Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, visited Eyemouth on 24 July to mark the completion of the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm as it enters full operation. Located 15.5 kilometres off the coast of Fife, the project consists of 54 turbines with a total capacity of up to 450MW.

It is expected to supply electricity to approximately 375,000 homes and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by over 400,000 tonnes. Neart na Gaoithe, meaning “strength of the wind” in Gaelic, is jointly owned by EDF and ESB. The wind farm has contributed an estimated £200 million to the Scottish economy during construction, with over 50 local suppliers involved. Key participants include Forth Ports at the Port of Dundee, I\&H Brown in Perth, Briggs Marine in Burntisland, and Muir Construction in Inverkeithing. The First Minister toured the wind farm’s operations and maintenance base in Eyemouth, meeting with project workers, schoolchildren, and community groups benefiting from the development.
