Iberdrola has chosen a protective coating developed by Seville-based Revestimientos Técnicos Sostenibles (RTS) for the 21 transition pieces at its Windanker offshore wind farm, currently under construction in the Baltic Sea. The transition pieces have been coated with a natural cork-based compound designed to withstand harsh marine conditions.
The transition pieces have been produced by Windar in Avilés, Spain. RTS, in which Iberdrola holds a stake through its international innovation programme PERSEO, has expanded from building refurbishment products to solutions for protecting offshore wind structures, including turbines and substations. The Windanker wind farm will have a capacity of 315 MW and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
