Germany publishes roadmap to reduce reliance on Chinese permanent magnets in wind sector

Germany has published a Resilience Roadmap for Permanent Magnets, outlining a strategy to reduce dependence on Chinese supply chains and strengthen security in the European wind energy industry. The roadmap, developed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in cooperation with industry and trade associations, sets clear targets for sourcing permanent magnets from more resilient supply chains.
Windward Offshore to supply CSOVs to support RWE offshore operations

Windward Offshore has signed its first charter contracts with North Star for two purpose-built Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs), Windward Athens and Windward Paris. The vessels will support RWE’s offshore wind operations in the United Kingdom and Germany under a joint agreement between Windward Offshore and North Star.

WindEurope urges urgent investment in ports and vessels to meet offshore wind targets

Europe plans to increase its offshore wind capacity from 36.6 GW today to 84 GW by 2030. To reach this target, stronger investment is needed in ports and vessels, according to a statement from WindEurope. Currently, Europe is able to install and maintain around 10 GW of offshore wind capacity annually. This is the minimum required to meet 2030 targets. After 2030, annual deployment will need to increase to at least 15 GW to stay on track with energy transition goals.
RWE to charter hybrid vessels from North Star for North Sea wind farms

North Star has signed agreements with RWE to supply four hybrid-powered commissioning and service operation vessels (CSOVs) to support the company’s offshore wind farm activities. The agreement includes two firm long-term charter contracts and two reservation agreements for newbuild vessels.
Gentari signs PPA with Amazon Web Services for wind project in India

Gentari and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for an 80MW wind project in Tamil Nadu, India. The PPA follows a collaboration agreement signed between the two companies in 2023. The wind project is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2027 and is expected to produce around 300,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year.
Asso.subsea to carry out nearshore cable works for Tennet’s 2GW programme

Asso.subsea has been awarded the nearshore cable installation scope for three offshore grid connection projects in TenneT’s 2GW Programme: BalWin4, LanWin1 and LanWin5. Located off the northwestern coast of Baltrum Island in northern Germany, the projects represent a new collaboration between Asso.subsea and Jan De Nul, the main contractor, with TenneT as the end client.
Vestas partners with Japan’s METI and signs mou with Nippon Steel to support wind supply chain development

Offshore substation installed at Inch Cape offshore wind farm

The offshore substation and jacket foundation for the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm have been installed at the project site in the North Sea, 21 kilometres off the Angus coast. The Siemens Energy Offshore Transformer Module (OTM), supported by a 68-metre jacket foundation, was installed by Heerema Marine Contractors using the semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir. The 2,700-tonne platform includes two circuits, each with a transformer and reactor.
