US Interior Department updates approach to energy project permitting on federal land

United States Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum has signed a Secretary’s Order aimed at revising how energy projects on federal lands are assessed and permitted. The order introduces the concept of “capacity density” as a criterion for evaluating proposed projects, with the goal of optimising energy generation while limiting environmental impacts and might be an additional obstacle for the development of wind and solar energy projects on federal lands.
MOL and Mitsui acquire port and energy-related businesses at Port of Nigg

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Mitsui & Co. have acquired the terminal and port operations at the Port of Nigg in the United Kingdom from GEG. The deal also includes businesses involved in steel processing and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment for the offshore wind, oil and gas sectors. A share purchase agreement has been signed.
IQIP to supply installation equipment for Deme at Vattenfall’s nordlicht cluster

IQIP has secured a contract from Deme for the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind farms in the German North Sea. The two sites form the Nordlicht cluster, developed by Vattenfall. IQIP will supply its Hydrohammer IQ6 hydraulic hammer combined with Pulse noise mitigation technology.

DEM-AWE project tests airborne wind and storage system in Ireland and Netherlands

The DEM-AWE project has demonstrated the potential of airborne wind energy combined with storage through the Kite-Battery Energy Storage System (K-BESS), developed by Dutch company Kitepower. Field trials were carried out over 18 months, starting at RWE’s airborne wind test site in Bangor Erris, Ireland, where the system’s reliability and control systems were tested in challenging conditions. The integrated battery unit, developed with Greener Power Solutions, was validated during these trials.
